This is a handmade Native American pot and is a one of a kind item. Cochiti storyteller created by Helen Cordero, originator of the ceramic storyteller among the pueblos. Male storyteller holding a drum and is missing a drumstick. Helen Cordero of Cochiti Pueblo created her first storyteller in the image of her grandfather, an important man in the Pueblo and a wonderful storyteller.Without a written language, Native american tribes depended upon their storytellers to remember and pass on tribal folklore, history, and traditions. The Cordero family still continues Helen's Pueblo storyteller tradition and many artists from Jemez, Cochiti, Acoma, and other Pueblos have become well known for their own interpretation of the storyteller. This storyteller is from the late 1970-80's, 12 1/4" high, 6"shoulder to arm.
