E614-California Silver Tapia Bridle
View Details
Spade bit made by Jose (1831-1902) and/or Jesus (1856-1931) Tapia, father and son, both born in Mexico and moved to southern California, Los Angeles area, where they lived and worked for the balance of their lives. The artistic quality and attention to detail has placed them at the top of all bit and spur makers of the early era. Their work is seldom marked but is the most easily identified from their unique engraving patterns. In recent years, Tapia bits have sold for as much as 25,000.00 and Tapia spurs have brought from 18.000.00 to 35,000.00. This piece represents a period headstall with black leather and silver ferules engraved in the vaquero style; braided rawhide reins, all in excellent condition. "Tapia work is some of the most exquisite of all California bit and spur makers. Their work commands the highest prices among knowledgeable collectors." - Bit and Spur Makers in the Vaquero Tradition - Ned Martin. ONE ONLY! Please reference Sku # 991200614
