Leekya Deyuse is a Zuni jeweler who was active from 1920-66. He was characterized as "The most expert turquoise worker in the village" in 1944 by historian John Adair. This bear fetish is in fine condition with the exception of a minor chip on the arrowhead. This stone is found near Zuni and is considered special by the Zunis. Fetish carving has an ancient history in Native American religion. Ca:1950's. This is a one of a kind item. This Bear fetish is made of molded brown travertine. 2" x 3.75"
