HORSE HAIR BASKET - TOHONO O'ODHAM - HH40
View Details
Finely crafted miniature horsehair basket - tray shaped in a tribal lifeways design with cactus fruit harvesters, deer, animals, and people - by Tohono Oodham artist Norma Antone. This beautiful miniature basket is woven entirely by hand of horsehair. No dyes are used, only the natural horse hair colour itself. These incredibly detailed and finely hand crafted baskets epitomize the artistry and excellence in the basketry of the Tohono O'odham. Often known as the Papago Indian tribe, the people of the tribe prefer their Native name Tohono O'odham, meaning people of the desert. These Native American peoples of Southern Arizona and Northern Mexico have been known for their fine basketry for centuries. SLZXZX
