View Details Marked 'AY AM '05'. The unique design of this Navajo made pottery is achieved in the firing process. Pre-formed ceramic vases are slipped and strands of horsehair are arranged over the vessel. During the firing the horsehair shrivels, leaving the black impression on the creamy pottery surface. Each piece is then carefully hand etched in a variety of geometric and symbolic designs. Every hand etched piece bears the craftspersons signature or mark on the bottom.
