This carving is remarkable in that it depicts a Skinwalker, a Navajo type of witch who can transform into a wolf or coyote and kill people using witchcraft. This is not a subject usually portrayed. Here the skinwalker is seen confronting a Navajo man on horseback. The Navajo man has been tending his sheep, one of which is carved into the base. His sheep dog is attacking the skinwalker's ankle.
