NAVAJO HAND CARVED KACHINA - SKIN WALKER - HK278
View Details
By Navajo artist, Lawrence Jacquez. Lawrence is a Navajo carver who makes renditions of Navajo religious and cultural themes using cottonwood root. This carving is remarkable in that it depicts a Skinwalker, a Navajo type of witch who can transform into a wolf or coyote and kill people using witchcraft. This is not a subject usually portrayed. Here the skinwalker is seen confronting a Navajo man on horseback. The Navajo man has been tending his sheep, one of which is carved into the base. His sheep dog is attacking the skinwalker's ankle. Lawrence calls this sculpture 'Herder's Risk' 15 inches tall. ONE ONLY! NOTE: Due to the extremely fragile nature of these hand carved kachina dolls, a flat shipping rate of 150.00 applies.
