NAVAJO HANDMADE PICTORIAL BASKET - BA121
View Details
Navajo Basketry Tray By Navajo artist, Jonathon Black. This Navajo basket is woven with a Pictorial design featuring five hummingbirds encircling the five point blossom center. Woven today much the same as it might have been centuries ago, the tools used are a knife, an awl, and the hands of the weaver. The native materials - largely sumac and willow - are collected soaked, split, and dyed in a process almost as time consuming as the actual weaving. Navajo basketry, almost a lost art at the beginning of the twentieth century, is now enjoying a come back. These baskets are still constructed for utilitarian and ceremonial purposes, but have also evolved into a unique and beautiful art form. 13 inches in diameter. ONE ONLY! Please reference Sku # 99234021
