The artwork that decorates each of these beautiful horse sculptures is conceived and created by artists around the country. One of the hottest collectibles around, each pony is a unique and beautiful expression of the art and imagery of the Southwest. The Trail of Painted Ponies concept was begun by the vision of Rod Barker who organized a nationwide artistic event in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The best artists the Southwest had to offer were invited to apply their creativity to bring to life over 120 painted horses in 2001. The event raised over half a million dollars for charity and created a spark that would begin a wild fire in artistic creation. The Trail of Painted Ponies concept was embraced by King Features and Westland Gifts began to coordinate the creation of the Trail of Painted Ponies collector’s figures. There seems no end to the creative process now as each year new painted ponies are conceived and created in limited edition figurines that have the creative collectibles world buzzing as loudly today as it was at the idea’s conception.
