Dee Setalla Hopi Handmade Pottery
HP18004 – Hopi Pottery by Dee Setalla
Handmade Hopi pottery by Dee Setalla. Dee J. Setalla is a member of the Hopi-Tewa reservation. He was born and raised in Snowbird Canyon, Arizona and is a member of the Bear Clan. Dee began experimenting with pottery at the age of 6. He learned the skills of pottery making from his mother, Pauline Setalla, and his aunt, Eunice "Fawn" Navasie, both well known Hopi potters. They taught him the fundamentals of pottery making the traditional way. This particular pot has gone through a process of gathering and prepring the clay, then coiling the pot, smoothing, drying, sanding, going through it's first polishing. The painting is then started usually with natural pigments, the pot then goes through a second polishing then the final process of firing. This hand painted pot is adorned with whirlwind, rain, and cloud symbols. This is a one of a kind item. Made in the USA. Measures 7" in diameter and 7 1/4" tall.
