Nampeyo Hopi Pottery
Hopi handmade pottery jar by Nampeyo of Hano. Nampeyo is known for reviving and expanding the beautiful ancient style of pottery called Sikyatki. This particular pot has gone through a process of gathering and preparing the clay, then coiling the pot, smoothing, drying, sanding, going through it's first polishing. The painting is then started usually with natural pigments, the pot then goes through a second polishing then the final process of firing. This hand painted pottery is adorned with two bird symbols on either side of the jar. Attributed to Nampeyo.
Condition: Excellent for age, no significant sign if wear for a jar of this age, no restoration.
