Navajo Handmade Miniature Third Phase Chief Rug by Matilda Yazzie-Bia
Navajo handwoven miniature Third Phase Chief rug by Matilda Yazzie-Bia. The chief's blanket is so-named because these Navajo woven blankets; warm, soft, naturally water-resistant, artistically beautiful, and skillfully woven, were greatly valued by the Native Americans of the Plains as well as the Southwest. These blankets were costly to obtain and were usually worn by chiefs or important headmen.Third phase Chiefs blankets are more distinguished by its square shape which originally started out as a plain design of stripes with bands of blue, black, and red. The effect of this design was meant to be appreciated while worn. Made in the USA. One of a kind. The blanket measures 5" by 6 1/4".
