R18115 – Navajo Handwoven Miniature Second Phase Chief
Navajo Handmade Miniature First Phase Chief Rug by Matilda Yazzie-Bia
Navajo handwoven miniature First Phase Chief rug by Matilda Yazzie-Bia. The chief's blanket is so-named because these Navajo woven blankets; warm, soft, naturally water-resistant, artistically beautiful, and skillfully woven, were greatly valued by the Native Americans of the Plains as well as the Southwest. These blankets were costly to obtain and were usually worn by chiefs or important headmen. This blanket has a classic design of black and white stripes with bands of blue, black, and red. The effect of this design was meant to be appreciated while worn. Made in the USA. One of a kind. The blanket measures 5" by 6 1/4".
